평양국제마라톤대회에 외국인 650명 출전

<내나라>는 지난 12일 열린 평양국제마라톤대회에 출전한 외국인 선수들이 650 명으로 미국, 영국, 이탈리아, 스웨덴, 핀란드, 중국, 일본, 말레이시아, 싱가포르 등 30여개 나라 출신이라고 하였다.

 

미국 정부가 북을 여전히 여행위험지역으로 지정하고 있지만, 이번 대회에 참가한 미국인은 100여명이나 된다고 <USA 투데이>신문이 밝혔다. 평양 마라톤은 2년째 외국인 아마추어 선수들의 출전을 허용하고 있다. <뉴욕타임즈>는 북 주민들이 도로변의 살구꽃 사이에 늘어서서 외국인들과 손뼉을 맞추거나 손을 흔드는 등 선수들에 대한 격려를 아끼지 않았다고 전하였다.

A marathon race took place with due ceremony at Kim Il Sung Stadium on April 12 to celebrate the birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

 

It brought together more than 800 men and women marathoners.

 

Present at the ceremony were Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, members of the State Physical Culture and Sports Guidance Commission and officials concerned.

 

Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Kim Yong Hun declared an opening of the race, expressing belief that it would be held with success thanks to the minds and efforts of the participants.

 

Marathoners ran along streets, welcomed by working people, youth and schoolchildren.

 

Ri Yong Ho (man) and Kim Hye Song (woman) placed first, Ra Hyon Ho (man) and Kim Kum Ok (woman), Ri Kang Bom (man) and Sin Yong Sun (woman) second and third.

 

A closing ceremony took place.

 

Marathoners who proved successful at the race were awarded trophy cups and medals.

 

Meanwhile, a race of amateur marathoners took place on the same occasion.

 

Attending the race were more than 600 amateur marathoners from dozens of countries including Malaysia, Singapore, Sweden, Finland, UK and Italy.

 

Certificates of participation and souvenirs were awarded to marathon fans who proved successful at the marathon, half-marathon and 10 km race.
