The world has just woken up to the worst-ever humanitarian challenge posed by the greatest number of refugees. The UN estimates that the number has exceeded 60 million.

Who is the mastermind of this tragedy?

The UN analyzed in its report that the rapidly-increasing number of refugees in the world is the result of civil wars, big and small, throughout the world including the Middle East and Africa.

 

The Arab Spring, instead of bringing genuine freedom and democracy to the Middle East and North Africa, plunged the countries in these regions in the bloody national and ethnic conflicts, anarchistic chaos and disorder, giving rise to the deluge of refugees.

 

In Libya over 434 000 refugees fled from war zones in the first half of the last year, and 820 000 were dislocated in South Sudan.

 

About one million refugees fled to Europe through the Mediterranean Sea, which is called a “road to grave,” a “road to death.”

 

Last April, a ship carrying refugees from Libya to Italy sank, claiming more than 800 lives. The number of refugees who died at sea reached 3 320.

 

The status of those who managed to reach Europe is no better than that of those dead. Britain, while placing strict inspection and regulations to places such as construction sites and private house cleaning companies in major cities including London where refugees can settle, is going to impose a fine of ￡ 20 000 on or sentence up to two years in prison to organs and individuals who employ refugees. Over 200 arson attacks against refugees were reported in Germany, and over 70 dead refugees were found inside a refrigerator car abandoned on a motorway in Austria.

Demonstrations criticizing the authorities’ policy on refugees are unabated in Germany and Britain, and in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia demonstrators are shouting, “Go home, refugees!”

 

When West European countries including France and Germany proposed as the last resort an “equal assignment” of refugees, East European countries opposed it, saying it was unfair. This intensified contradictions and conflicts between West Europe and East Europe.

 

Mounting stronger among the British is the opinion that their country must secede from the EU. Mail on Sunday carried the result of a nationwide opinion poll, in which the majority of respondents said that Britain must break from the EU for various reasons including the refugee issue.

A spokesman of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that the irresponsible and careless acts of the US and the West aimed at changing political system in the Middle East and North Africa resulted in the recent deluge of refugees to Europe.

 

The pain the European countries are experiencing owing to the deluge of refugees reminiscent of the Exodus, clearly shows that only catastrophe awaits those that toe the line of the US blindly.
